Acast

Together with Canon, RØDE, Nanlite and CVP, Podlab were invited to co-host a first-of-its-kind, two-day, visual podcasting event at Acast's studios in Shoreditch. We lit a studio mock-up and walked the audience through how we did it, live in front of them. Podlab owner, Ollie, showed people how they can elevate their own show's lighting, as well as considerations about lens choice, white balance and exposure with their cameras.

On the second day, Ollie sat down with Nick Stillman of RØDE, and Graham Payne of Canon UK, for a panel discussion, hosted by Sam Shetabi of Acast. We fielded questions from the audience, that included technical tips, as well as broader musings on the direction of travel in the industry and how to drive audience engagement.

The Diary of a CEO

In 2025, Podlab were introduced to the team behind 'The Diary of a CEO' (Flight Story) through Canon.

We got chatting with their Executive Director of Production, Jack Sylvester, about colour consistency with the lighting on their set, and how colour charts can help identify and solve these common problems.

Here's what Jack had to say after only their first meeting...

"I had an hour long chat with Ollie about areas of the production we could improve at 'The Diary Of A CEO', and the suggestions he came up with were totally game-changing! Just a few simple tweaks seem to have unlocked a whole new level of quality I didn’t realise existed, all without spending much at all or changing any of our equipment."

The Therapy Crouch

We were asked by the team at Marvellous to set up the cameras and lights on their fabulous new 'The Therapy Crouch' set. The aim? To create a more dynamic and flattering light that shows off the studio - and the talent - in the best way possible. We think the results speak for themselves.

Inside the Music with Gary Barlow

Podlab owner Ollie Kenchington was commissioned to direct and produce a five-part video podcast series exclusive to Apple Podcasts. When it launched, it shot to the top of the U.K. podcast listings, and held the top spot for three weeks.

Over the years since working together, Gary has kept in touch, and even commissioned Ollie to run production and post-production training for himself, as well as his in-house creative team.

Canon

Canon UK commissioned a sample podcast to be produced, using their PTZ and Cinema EOS cameras, to show off what could be achieved with them in the best hands.

All aspects of the production were carried out by us, from pre-production to set-design, lighting design, multicam production, hair and makeup, wardrobe, casting, editing, colour-grading and delivery.

The Horrells

'The Horrells’ is a new visual podcast sharing the joys of a family of five living and working on their rural homestead in Somerset, England.  Featuring cooking on fire, tales from the kitchen garden, homesteading tips, craft and styling tips, and the seasonal joys of countryside living, the intention is for this to be a show watched on TV, with themed segments and broadcast-quality visuals, no different to a big network show.

Podlab has taken care of all aspects of the production and post-production of the main show, as well as short form social content, and the backend management for YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. We're also responsible for the data analytics behind each episode, helping the show to grow and attract sponsorship.

Vision+ Accreditation

VISION+
ACCREDITATION

Raise the Bar. Earn the Standard. Lead the Industry.

The UK’s first accreditation framework for video-first podcasts.

Defining excellence in production, workflow, design and delivery.

What is Vision+?

Vision+ is a certification, optimisation and public accreditation system for video-first podcasts.

It exists to:

• Improve craft and technical integrity

• Bring visibility to quality

• Help audiences and brands know what “cinematic” looks like

• Raise the commercial value of premium shows

Vision+ was developed by Podlab, after seventeen years working at the forefront of visual storytelling and podcast production. This is not consultancy - this is standards, validation and elevation.

Why now?

The industry has professionalised faster than its capability base. Platforms want scale and creators want excellence. Audiences want quality, but there has been no independent benchmark - until now.

Vision+ introduces:

A shared definition of production excellence

Accreditation that creators, studios and shows can earn

A network that brands can trust

It’s time this industry had a benchmark worth striving for.

Who is Vision+ for?

Vision+ is designed for:

• Established podcasts looking to level up
• Growth-stage creators moving into video
• Premium independents
• High-performing studios
• Networks building a video-first slate
• Brands requiring verified delivery partners

If you take craft seriously and want competitive advantage, then this is for you.

What Vision+ Accredits

Vision+ evaluates capability and elevates performance across:

Production & Studio Setup

• Lighting, audio, camera, set design, acoustics

Workflow Engineering

• Editing discipline, media management, continuity, redundancies

Creative Treatment & Visual Language

• Framing, tone, brand alignment, audience experience

Technical Consistency

• Colour management, delivery formats, matching and monitoring

Operational Resilience

• Reliability, repeatability, time-to-publish integrity

Commercial Readiness

• Sponsor presentation, brand alignment, scalable quality controls

How Accreditation Works

Accreditation begins with a briefing and pre-assessment, during which we align your objectives against the Vision+ Standards Framework. From there, the implementation phase takes place on-site: up to two days of hands-on optimisation, training and system engineering to bring your production towards compliance. As you embed improvements, remote support is available to ensure stability and resolve issues in real time.

Once deployment concludes, you receive a detailed report outlining findings, required adjustments and recommended enhancements to maintain excellence. Shows that reach the required benchmark are awarded Vision+ accreditation, listed publicly and granted permission to display the Vision+ badge. Accreditation is not final, however; maintaining it requires annual validation, ensuring your standards evolve as the industry does.

What Accreditation Delivers

Vision+ accreditation delivers measurable uplift in capability, discipline and creative output. It raises the aesthetic and technical standard of your production, resulting in clearer storytelling, stronger viewer retention and a more professional impression for guests, advertisers and brands. With a consistent workflow and reduced revision burden, projects move faster and more efficiently, allowing teams to focus on what matters most: the content itself.

Accredited shows benefit from increased trust, clearer commercial positioning and eligibility for Vision+ showcase opportunities. Simply put, accreditation transforms your show from “well-produced” to recognised standard-bearer - visible, credible and aligned with a benchmark the industry can understand and respect.
